Today, 15 Mar 2021 there was an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer which elicited some nostalgic thoughts of long, long ago.

A ‘Mr. Fixit’ helps West Philly residents and businesses cut through red tape

Since I don’t subscribe to the paper, I can’t read the entire article, but the accompanying picture from the paper is quite interesting. The picture is taken at 44th and Chestnut in West Philadelphia, looking west down Chestnut Street. The colorful corner place is what used to be Milner’s Drug Store. It is now the Ethiopian Cultural Center.

Careful attention to the man’s right hand has it exactly over the house/apartments which were my home for 13 years from 1945 to 1956. This is where I made my daily departure to walk east up Chestnut to Saint Leonard’s, often with Pat Rosle. Perhaps some of you visited me in our second floor apartment. So there is quite a bit of nostalgia in this picture.

Affectionately (as Miss Rosalie used to sign her letters), Lannie
